스페인에서 교환학생으로 사는 법 : 안달루시아의 알메리아
안녕하세요. 저는 스페인 알메리아에서 공부하고 있는 유 진입니다. 2021년 8월부터 교환학생 신분으로 알메리아에 살고 있습니다. 어렸을 때부터 스페인어를 전공했기 때문에 스페인어권 국가에서 살아보는 것이 꿈같은 일이었습니다. 그 꿈같은 일이 실제로 일어났을 때 어땠는지, 지금 살고 있는 알메리아라는 도시는 어떤 곳인지 소개하려 합니다. 알메리아는 스페인 안달루시아 지방의 한 도시입니다. 스페인학을 전공했음에도 불구하고, 교환학생을 준비하며 처음 알게 된 스페인의 도시입니다. 안달루시아 지방은 이슬람세력이 스페인을 지배했을 때, 가장 오랫동안 영토를 유지하던 곳입니다. 그래서 이슬람교와 카톨릭이 섞인 독특한 건축, 문화양식으로 유명합니다. 사실 알메리아에 처음 도착했을 때, 스페인스럽지도, 이슬람국가스럽지도 않다는 느낌을 받았습니다. 그 이유는 알메리아는 바다로 유명한 휴양지이기 때문입니다. 알메리아의 첫인상은, 도시 곳곳에 있는 야자수 나무, 멋없게 깔린 콘크리트 바닥 그리고 반짝이는 바다. 이렇게 정리할 수 있습니다. ‘유럽도시’에 대한 막연한 환상을 갖고 있던 저에게 알메리아의 풍경은 그리 특별한 것 없는 휴양지였습니다. 제가 도착한 8월 15일, 알메리아의 모습입니다. 5분만 걸어다녀도 땀이 뻘뻘 날 정도로 더웠지만, 해변에는 여유롭게 수영하는 사람들로 가득했습니다. 당시 그 모습을 보며, 나도 얼른 이 도시에 적응하고 싶다는 생각을 했습니다. 그로부터 한 달정도 지나자, 차츰 도시에 적응해가고 있다는 느낌이 들었습니다. 한 달동안, 집을 구했고, 백신을 맞았고, 외국인 카드를 발급받았으며, 학교에 다니기 시작했습니다. 도시에 적응하면서, 친구들도 사귀고 함께 바다에 가서 여유롭게 시간을 보내기도 했습니다. 개강을 하고 난 뒤부터는, 대학수업을 따라가는 데 애를 먹긴 […]
